El entrevistador miembro del Salón de la Fama, Gene Okerlund, falleció a los 76 años informó la WWE a través de un comunicado de prensa. "Mean" Gene como era conocido en el medio del entretenimiento deportivo debutó en American Wrestling Association en los años setenta.
Se unió a la WWE en 1984, lugar en que se hizo muy conocido tanto como las superestrellas a las que entrevistó, entre ellas: "Macho Man", Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior y Hulk Hogan. Además, interpretó el Himno Nacional en el primer WrestleMania en 1985 y cantó "Tutti Frutti" en el Álbum The Wrestling de la WWE.
Otros shows que presentó incluyen: All-American Wrestling, Tuesday Night Titans, Wrestling Challenge y Prime Time Wrestling.
En 1993 se unió a WCW, donde entrevistó a luchadores con los que ya había trabajado en la AWA y la WWE. En 2001 regresó a WWE para anunciar la Gimmick Battle Royal en WrestleMania 17 junto con Bobby "The Brain" Heenan.
